Car Insurance – Legalised theft

Loreleila asked:

The way the law is set up the injured, and often innocent party, is forced to fight for their basic rights, which they are unlikely to get, whereas the perpetrator is likely to have to make no efforts at all, the worst possibility losing their no claims bonus. Due to our legal obligation to have car insurance (which is of course wise) with a lack of adequate regulation or law to force these greedy companies to treat their customers with respect and fairness they will continue to be able to rake in billions and pay out the bare minimum which is frequently not even honest, since their systems are designed to serve their own interests. This will not change unless we make it clear it is unacceptable.

Naturally it’s about being taken seriously. Congratulations on getting through the corporate cannon fodder ^_^

Loreleila November 5, 2008 at 12:24 pm

It certainly is frustrating. To be honest, more than whether I got fully paid or not I objected to being treated badly and like a moron for asking only a fair response for a service I had paid for. Oddly, a few days after I put this video up the person assigned my case finally deigned to get in touch and seek to resolve it, being reasonable and respectful. A first for them. I am left wondering if there is any correlation.

F00dTube November 6, 2008 at 3:42 am

nice expression at the end. It is not the case because the highest bidder wins. Two forces balance eachother out. Here are all kinds of distortions. Like you mentioned because it’s compulsory they have a sort of monopoly. Also they get to inspect if they will give away their money and they are forced to or they’ll go bankrupt. But it’s very frustrating to get caught up in such a system and have the uncertainty and not get fully paid.

Loreleila November 7, 2008 at 5:38 am

You make some important points. The system is set up with inbuilt dishonesty, or rather expected dishonesty from both sides. Yet this is not the case in many other commercial interactions. Not to say most of them are all that reasonable, but it is this, and a couple of others, which really take the biscuit in terms of absurdity.

F00dTube November 9, 2008 at 11:22 am

If you read the clause you will find that they actually don’t have to pay anything at all. The other side of the story is that people that run an insurance company have to make a pragmatic choice. If they don’t have this policy they will go bankrupt within a year from insurance frauds. The community suffers, but the community is guilty. People on the top of the company look at a way to run a sustainable policy the inspectors are looking at a way to higher their provision.

Hi fortislover
Interesting point these awards they have won,I call it the lovees club where they just love to give each other alsorts of awards all nicely framed ,we never get to find out who voted them thee award how ever they can be very usefull for hideing the cracks in the plaster
regards
dave

Loreleila November 11, 2008 at 1:37 pm

You entirely miss the point. Though I suspect you have a (not very) hidden agenda. I repeat, the issue is not one insurance company or another (and I did tell them I was going to make this video, to tell me if they didn’t want to be mentioned, but they ignored it), but of the system as a whole. If you are a happy customer, fine, but that doesn’t mean others don’t have a valid perspective or complaint. This is a political issue many are aware of. You are drawing attnetion to the company, not I.

Fortislover November 12, 2008 at 12:43 pm

If I/all felt the need to make a sad vid about EVERY issue in the country then it would probly crash Youtube.
Ive never felt the need to post on here until I see some1 who is slating a company Im happy with and millions of others. Check there website out, theyve won awards year after year and compare that to other companies in the same industry.
Answer my question : why do you feel so badly treated? – Post the make and year of your car and that would explain the reason why your unhappy :)

Loreleila November 15, 2008 at 11:46 am

I’m very happy for you. I’m sure you don’t work for them. To say you buy from them but not work for them, if you do, would not be honest. The fact you only created this profile today is interesting. Not sure how you can say no laws were broken since you don’t know the case.

Either way,if you observe the main thrust of what I’m saying, rather than the particular, you’ll see I’m attempting to raise an issue many people find an unacceptable and unfair system, irrespective of the company.

Fortislover November 17, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Ever heard of the FSA? they govern and follow strict guidelines on how these companies are run and I can assure you no laws have been broken and there is no fine line in the way you say youve been through a loophole. lol

Please tell me how old your car is and how much you paid for it, and also how much Fortis offered you as you dont seem to tell that side in your lovely vid.

As for me ive been with Fortis for 7 years and ive had 2 claims both times I was exeptionally happy with them.

Hi yettio
We do not care weather the legal representatives want to see this blog,we being the rest of the world all have similar problems from time to time with these companys. We can help each other by swoping our own storys and stop each other making the same mistakes,we are no longer small people living in a big world who can be intimidated.
As long as we tell the truth the truth will prevale.

They have to talk to me, it’s their job. They don’t have to do anything about it of course, but I’m told there is a growing swell of public opinion on this issue, and Radio4 has a programme relating to it (the whole thing, not my video). I’m not ready to lie down and play dead yet. :)

thedavewalkershow November 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Loreleile
AN M,p,is proberbly siting on the board, and we all know how they like to regulate them selves so theres no chance they will talk to you.

Loreleila November 30, 2008 at 2:41 pm

I will, and I wish you the very best for a fair and honest outcome for you.

Loreleila December 1, 2008 at 10:02 am

Hi Dave. Oddly I was wondering exactly the same thing myself earlier today. I’ve had this car for a long time, it’s worth far less than it was, and thus far more likely to be written off by an insurer in an accident, so much less settlement offered, yet the cost of the cover doesn’t decrease at all. How can that be? It’s heads they win tails we lose.

thedavewalkershow December 3, 2008 at 5:15 am

Hi loreleila
I have done a video blog on pension funds and so called I,f,a,after personel experience please check it out,we will prevaile keep the faith.

‘Every voice makes a difference. can you imagine if everyone who had ever had a problem with an insurance company did a video on youtube!’

Absolutely. Well said. :)

MzTruthSeerUK December 6, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Every voice makes a difference. can you imagine if everyone who had ever had a problem with an insurance company did a video on youtube! My car was parked stationary -another car plowed into the side – witnessed by others – I wasnt there. Police found the driver damage on their car matched and paint from my car on their vehicle. I was fully comp. She denied the damage police gave her a caution and I ended up footing bill. Insurance said she denied it! bonus I got use of courtesy car!

Loreleila December 8, 2008 at 1:56 pm

Oh I know. I am prevailing, and trying to make a difference. In the end the money or my own personal experience is less important to me than the principle and the fact the system is set up to even begin to consider this acceptable. But your support is appreciated. :)

grumpychuck December 9, 2008 at 5:55 pm

I really feel for you, Cathy! It sucks, plain and simple. You pay for a product, the insurance, and in this case you must pay for it…it doesn’t deliver and you, or we, have to figure out how to get the product to work. It’s horrible!!! But, YOU WILL PREVAIL…please don’t forget that.

Yetti0 December 12, 2008 at 9:34 pm

In the states we have insurance boards and government boards where complaints can be made…any person has access to these agencies and boards..

just remember knowledge is power. ” Stitch in time saves 9″ ‘Buyer Beware” That is all I can offer.
